At Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, Texas,

a high school track meet turned deadly when a confrontation between two students ended in a fatal stabbing.

On April 2, students from multiple Frisco ISD schools gathered for the 11-5A district meet.

Witnesses say 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, a Centennial High student, sat in the wrong tent and was asked to leave by Memorial High junior,

Austin Metcalf. The situation escalated when Karmelo allegedly pulled a knife and stabbed Austin in the chest.

Karmelo fled but was quickly apprehended by a school resource officer.

He reportedly told police,

“I was protecting myself,” and asked if Austin would survive.

He has since,

been charged with murder. Despite immediate medical efforts,

Austin was pronounced dead at the hospital.

His twin brother, Hunter, witnessed the attack and attempted to save him, later saying, “I just saw his soul leave.” Austin,

a standout athlete with college prospects, was remembered as driven and beloved.

His family and community are devastated, with questions arising about school safety measures.

Karmelo, being tried as an adult, remains in jail on a $1 million bond.

The district has offered counseling, and a GoFundMe for the Metcalf family has raised over $200,000.

As the investigation continues
