Ruidoso, New Mexico, is currently experiencing a sudden and potentially fatal flash flood emergency after rivers surged an unthinkable 20 feet in just 30 minutes. Emergency personnel are rushing to save families who are still stranded by the rising waters after entire homes were washed away in a matter of minutes.
Ground-level reports characterize the situation as “total devastation,” with homes falling into swift-moving water filled with debris, streets torn apart, and terrified residents scaling rooftops in hopes of being rescued.
The flood is still going on, and things are getting worse every hour, according to Live Storm Chasers. There are still a lot of missing people.
Several rescue airboats have been sent out, and local authorities have issued emergency evacuation orders. Power is out in some areas, roads are impassable, and more rain is predicted throughout the day.
