‘Sleeping Prince’ Dies At 36 After Spending Nearly 20 Years In Coma

Unfortunately, Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal passed away.

Following a severe vehicle accident in London in 2005, the 36-year-old Saudi prince has been in a coma ever since.

Prince Al-Waleed suffered severe brain damage and internal haemorrhage as a result of an incident in England when he was still a teenager. Tragically, despite receiving immediate medical attention for his wounds, he never recovered consciousness.

The prince spent the final 20 years of his life in King Abdulaziz Medical City in Saudi Arabia, where he was kept alive by life support.

Prince Al-Waleed was known as the ‘Sleeping Prince’ because of his persistent unconsciousness. The Saudi royal is now dead after 20 years on life support.

In a statement written by his father, Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, Prince Al-Waleed’s passing was declared yesterday, July 19.

He stated, according to Mirror Online: “With hearts believing in Allah will and decree, and with deep sorrow and sadness, we mourn our beloved son: Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, may Allah have mercy on him, who passed away today.”

Prince Al-Waleed’s last known movements were in 2019, when it was stated that he raised a finger and made a tiny head movement.

Roya News said that “he showed signs of limited awareness through small gestures, such as lifting a finger or slightly moving his head—though these moments did not indicate a return to full consciousness.”

Following the prince’s passing, people have been expressing their condolences on social media.

In a statement, the Global Imams Council said: “The Global Imams council extends its sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Adbulaziz, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and the esteemed Royal Family, on the passing of His Royal Highness Pirnce Alwaleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, who passed away after a long struggle that lasted nearly twenty years following a tragic accident.”

A different person penned: “May Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled, Rest In Peace. Deepest sympathies to his loved ones.”

“Your time on earth was a blessing to your family and the world in general,” wrote a further.

Another person added, “May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace,”

Prince Al-Waleed’s funeral prayers are reportedly scheduled to take place at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh.
