Community Mourns Johnsonville Teen as Investigation Unfolds

Authorities in Florence County say multiple Myrtle

Beach teens are facing charges after a late-night dispute in Johnsonville led to the loss of 16-year-old Trey Dean Wright on June 24, 2025.

Officials confirmed that nine individuals are connected to the case, with one more expected to surrender soon.

Investigators allege the teens acted together and are being considered accomplices under South Carolina law.

Among those named are 19-year-old Devan R.,

who was taken into custody the day after the incident,

and several others ranging in age from 17 to 18.

Some have been released on bond while others remain in detention as court dates approach.

Authorities have not released details about the involvement of four additional suspects, including juveniles.

Family and friends remember Wright as a bright and kind student at Johnsonville High School,

where he played both football and baseball. A celebration of life was held on July 3, and a fundraiser in

his honor helped cover final expenses, raising more than $6,000.

Sheriff TJ Joye called the loss “senseless,”

noting that the dispute was connected to personal issues

. Loved ones continue to mourn Wright,

describing him as someone who “brought laughter and light to everyone around him.”
