Nexstar to Preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live! Following Recent Controversy

Nexstar Media Group and Sinclair Broadcast Group, two of the largest owners

of ABC affiliate stations, announced they would not air Jimmy Kimmel Live!

following recent remarks made by the host about the tragic death of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.

During a broadcast, Jimmy Kimmel incorrectly linked the suspect involved to a political group, which sparked widespread backlash.

Both Nexstar and Sinclair stated their decision was based on a desire to maintain respectful and accurate public dialogue,

especially during a time of heightened national tension.

As a result, a large portion of ABC stations

will replace the late-night show with alternative programming,

even though Disney, which owns ABC, had planned for the show to return to its regular schedule.

Law enforcement later clarified that the suspect, Tyler Robinson, did not have ties to the group

Kimmel mentioned and held different political views.

ABC initially suspended the show, calling the comments “ill-timed and insensitive.”

Behind the scenes, some staff members have expressed concerns

that public trust may be difficult to rebuild and worry the show could face permanent cancellation if controversies continue to grow.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is also reviewing whether any further action is needed.

Meanwhile, the future of Jimmy Kimmel Live! remains uncertain as the network, affiliate stations,

and viewers grapple with questions about free speech

, responsibility in broadcasting, and the impact of misinformation in a divided media landscape.
