Why I Leave the Bathroom Light On in Hotels

On my first solo hotel stay,

I turned off every light before bed—only to keep flipping them back on.

Since then, I’ve learned that leaving the bathroom light

on (just a crack!) can actually help your sleep and safety.

Here’s why:

Night Navigation: No toe-stubbing on furniture at 2 a.m.

Peace of Mind: A soft glow calms nerves in unfamiliar places.

Jet Lag Helper: The low light gently eases your body clock.

Kid & Roommate Friendly: Less fumbling, no waking others.

Emergency-Ready: A visible room = quicker exit if needed.

But heads up: Too much light may disrupt melatonin,

use energy, or attract bugs in warm areas.

Pro tip?

Pack a travel nightlight or crack the door just enough to soften the brightness.

Small habit, big comfort.
