When My Doctor Husband Ignored My Pain—A Mother’s Instinct Saved Us

I’m 4 months pregnant, and my husband is an obstetrician.

Recently, I started feeling cramps in my back and lower abs.

My husband said the pain would go away in a few days, but it didn’t.

Four days later, I asked him to take me to the hospital, but he refused because…

…he believed I was simply overthinking due to anxiety.

He said he had seen hundreds of similar cases and insisted that stress was making it worse.

But deep down, I knew something was wrong. The pain felt different—it was persistent, sharp,

and nothing like what I had read or expected.

That night, while he was on call at the clinic, I couldn’t sleep. My instincts kept whispering,

“Protect your baby.” So, I called my sister, who immediately drove me to the hospital.

After an ultrasound and a few tests, the doctor told me I had a mild infection that could have affected the pregnancy if left untreated for much longer.

Thankfully, we caught it in time, and treatment was started right away.

When my husband arrived at the hospital and realized what had happened, he looked shaken.

He apologized, admitting he had been so used to being a doctor that he forgot to be a husband first—to listen,

to care, and to understand that even experts need to remain open to concern.

It became a turning point for us.

Now, he attends every appointment with me,

not as my doctor, but as my partner.

This experience taught us both something powerful: medical knowledge is valuable, but a mother’s intuition is priceless.
