Court Records Show Possible Charges for Relative After Florida Teen’s Cruise Ship Tragedy

The unexpected passing of 18-year-old Anna Kepner during a family cruise has led to a sensitive and ongoing

federal investigation, leaving her loved ones searching for clarity. Anna, a bright and well-loved Florida student,

was found unresponsive in her cabin on November 7, 2025, while the Carnival Horizon was returning to Miami.

Recent court filings connected to a separate family matter have revealed that federal investigators are

reviewing information that may involve someone within her extended family,

adding emotional strain to an already heartbreaking situation.

According to the filing, Anna’s stepmother, Shauntel Hudson, requested additional

time in her divorce proceedings due to what her attorneys described as an “extremely

sensitive” circumstance. The motion references communication with federal

investigators and indicates that authorities are carefully examining details

from the cruise, including passenger movements and cabin access records.

While the FBI has not publicly confirmed specifics, the documents suggest

that investigators are working methodically and that the situation requires

thoughtful handling, especially because minors are involved.

As agents continue reviewing surveillance footage, electronic key-card data,

and witness statements, Anna’s family has spoken about the difficulty of

waiting for answers. Her father, Chris Kepner, shared that the lack of updates has

been emotionally challenging, especially after the entire family was questioned

and temporarily held after disembarking. Despite the uncertainty, the family has emphasized their desire for patience, privacy, and a thorough investigation conducted with care.

Those who knew Anna remember her as a kind, energetic young woman who excelled academically and cared deeply for her community. She was involved in cheerleading, volunteered locally, loved the outdoors, and had recently expressed interest in pursuing a future in public service.

Her family hopes people will honor her memory by focusing on the joy she brought others while allowing investigators the time and space to uncover what truly happened on the cruise. As the case continues, her loved ones remain hopeful that clarity and peace will eventually come.
