The quake hit shortly after 11 p.m., delivering a sharp jolt followed by a gentle rolling motion that many residents instantly recognized.

People from San Diego all the way to Los Angeles reported rattling windows,

swaying ceiling fixtures, and furniture shifting slightly across rooms.

Even though the shaking lasted only a few seconds, it was strong enough to startle families awake and flood social media with posts asking,

despite the widespread shaking. Emergency crews
