Hundreds of thousands of Americans

are on high alert as scientists predict an imminent eruption

of Mount Spurr, a 11,070-foot volcano in Alaska, near Anchorage.

Despite the U.S. having 169 active volcanoes,

Mount Spurr’s recent seismic activity has raised serious concerns.

The Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO)

reports that over 100 earthquakes have

been recorded beneath Mount Spurr each week since February.

In total, more than 3,400 quakes have occurred in the area since April 2022.

This heightened activity signals a potential eruption similar to those in 1953 and 1992.

While residents of Anchorage, 81 miles away,

may not hear the eruption,

the nearby areas could be impacted by volcanic

lightning and ashfall, which has previously

reached Anchorage, causing significant ash accumulation.

Alaskans are preparing by stocking up on safety gear such as face masks, goggles, and water.

Volcanic ash poses serious health risks,

including respiratory issues and eye irritation,

further intensifying the urgency of preparedness.
