According to her representative, LaShirl Smith, she died in Los Angeles after suffering a sudden and unexpected heart attack. Born in Tyler, Texas, in 1951, she built a career marked by versatility and dedication. She became widely recognized during her 15-year run on the legendary program Showtime at the Apollo, where she co-hosted alongside Steve Harvey from 1987 to 2002. Her graceful presence and ability to connect with audiences made her a central part of the show’s identity, as it introduced both emerging and established performers to a national audience.
