Urgent Health Warning as Measles Cases Are Detected at Mall of America

Minnesota health officials warned an unvaccinated

child with measles visited Mall of America on May 24 from 5-9 pm, exposing many.

The source of infection is unknown, raising concern about community spread.

Visitors during this time should monitor symptoms until June 14,

especially unvaccinated or never infected individuals at higher risk.

Minnesota reported 4 cases in 2025,

including this child and an adult infected during air travel.

The US faces its largest measles outbreak since 2019 with 1,168 cases as of June 5

, mostly in low-vaccination communities, with 3 deaths all unvaccinated.

Vaccination rates have declined since the pandemic, threatening herd immunity.

Measles spreads easily through airborne droplets and

symptoms appear 7-14 days after exposure, including fever, cough,

rash, and eye redness. High-risk groups include infants,

unvaccinated children, pregnant women, and immunocompromised people.

Complications can be severe or fatal.

The MMR vaccine is 97% effective with two doses.

Restoring high vaccination rates and combating misinformation are essential to prevent outbreaks.
