Iran’s Potential Response To U.S. Airstrikes Could Spark Global Fallout

A video that suggests a possible action Iran could take in response to US bombings has been making the rounds.

As tensions between the Middle Eastern country and Israel continue to rise, President Donald Trump issued an order last night (June 21) for US military to attack Iran.

Iran and Israel exchanged missiles in the weeks before the incident, and the former claimed that the attacks were a “declaration of war,” which alarmed millions of people worldwide

However, Trump and his staff decided within 48 hours to attack Iran amid rumours that they were developing nuclear weapons, therefore the US has officially intervened in the battle to save Israel.

Submarines fired 30 Tomahawk missiles at two other targeted Iranian bases in Natanz and Esfahan, while a fleet of highly developed B-2 stealth bombers dropped 12 warheads on Iran’s main nuclear plant in Fordow.

Now, all eyes are on Iran, which appears to be about to take a severe action that could have an impact on other countries worldwide.

Iranian media reports indicate that the government has approved the closure of the 21-mile strait between the Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf.

As Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, led by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, is currently debating whether to shut it off entirely, the significance of this body of water cannot be overstated, according to Al Arabiya.

With about half of the world’s proven oil reserves located in the Middle East, namely in Saudi Arabia and Iran, it’s a crucial issue for countries all over the world when it comes to energy supplies.

The Arabian Sea and Persian Gulf are connected by this short strait, which is regarded as one of the most important marine routes for the transportation of energy worldwide.

This strait is used by 20% of the world’s natural gas and oil supplies, therefore any interruption to these vessels, even if brief, may have disastrous consequences for the world’s energy markets.

In the event that Iran closes the strait, people are now preparing for a decline in the economy and a jump in oil costs.

The country had previously threatened to do so, and tensions with the US were also high, but it appears that this time it might succeed.

According to reports, the decision has been approved by the Iranian parliament and is pending final approval.

Global repercussions would result, with markets at risk of a precipitous decline. A temporary closure would hurt a number of states, but a permanent one might destabilise a number of countries.

With tensions with the US at an all-time high, it is unclear at this moment how close Iran is to passing the measure or whether it is merely a negotiating chip.
