Early This Morning I Walked into the Bathroom and Found Something on the Floor That Stopped My Heart

Something on my bathroom floor stopped me cold. Twisted, brittle, and horribly unfamiliar, it lay near my cat while my mind raced through possibilities I barely dared to name. Searching online only deepened my fear, until I finally reached down and discovered that the truth behind this tiny object would turn my panic into something far harder to proc…

The object weighed almost nothing, and its delicate surface seemed ready to crumble between my fingers.

Looking closely, I finally recognized it: a tiny frog, dead and completely dried out.

Its body had become so distorted through mummification that the familiar outline was nearly impossible to see.

What I had imagined might be an organ or a parasite was simply the fragile remains of a small animal.

My cat was nearby, but how the frog had arrived remained a mystery.

Recognition brought relief, followed by an unexpected sadness.
This little creature had once moved through the world, unnoticed by me, and now I was holding what remained.
After cleaning up and washing my hands, I looked around the bathroom. Everything seemed ordinary again. Still, the encounter lingered—not because of the fright, but because something so small had made the fragility of life feel suddenly close, in the most familiar surroundings.
