Forty thousand dollars vanished in the space of a buzzer.

Amanda Brown reached Wheel of Fortune’s final puzzle with a winning streak behind her, only for her last-second answer to trigger a crushing ruling and an angry viewer debate.

As fans questioned whether the judges had gotten it right, her near-perfect night came down to one final agonizing dec…

Amanda Brown, a dancer from San Diego, had built an impressive run during a December episode of Wheel of Fortune. Strong solves and a successful Express Train gamble helped her collect more than $22,000 in cash and prizes, including a vacation. In the Bonus Round’s “Food & Drink” category, she confronted “MAPLE TA_ _ _.” After several guesses, she reached “Maple Taffy” just as the buzzer sounded, prompting host Ryan Seacrest to consult the judges.

Their review determined that the correct response arrived after time expired, costing Brown the additional $40,000 inside her envelope.

Viewers quickly challenged the call online, with some questioning the timing and others claiming it conflicted with the show’s published guidelines.

Those objections did not change the outcome. Brown still departed with substantial winnings, but the disputed finish left fans debating where an almost simultaneous answer and buzzer should draw the line between victory and disappointment.
