Adelita Grijalva Wins Democratic Primary for Arizona’s 7th Congressional District

Adelita Grijalva has won the Democratic primary for Arizona’s 7th Congressional District,

a seat that became open earlier this year after the passing of longtime Representative Raúl Grijalva. Adelita, who currently serves as

a Pima County Supervisor and is the daughter of the late congressman, received strong support

from local voters and key endorsements from prominent progressive leaders

. Her victory positions her as the clear favorite heading into the November special general election in this solidly Democratic district.

One of Adelita Grijalva’s main challengers was activist and organizer Deja Foxx, who announced her campaign earlier this year.

Foxx, known for her advocacy on reproductive rights and youth activism, ran on a progressive platform similar to Grijalva’s.

She received endorsements from organizations like Leaders We Deserve, which backs young progressive candidates. Despite an energetic campaign, Foxx finished second with just over 22% of the vote, while Adelita Grijalva secured about 62%, according to official primary results.

The race highlighted the contrast between traditional political experience and newer, grassroots activism.

While both candidates supported policies such as Medicare for All and environmental protection, voters ultimately chose

Adelita Grijalva, whose deep community connections and decades of family service in the district helped her gain broad trust among constituents.

Analysts note that in a district as Democratic-leaning as the 7th, winning the primary is usually decisive for the general election outcome.

Following the results,

Foxx thanked her supporters and emphasized the importance of continuing to engage young voters and advocate for progressive causes.

Grijalva expressed gratitude to the community and pledged to continue her father’s legacy of fighting for working families and underrepresented communities.

The special general election is scheduled for later this year, though experts widely expect Grijalva to win and represent the district in Congress.
