At night, I couldn’t sleep and lay helpless in bed. I unconsciously looked out the window. Through the fog, I noticed something strange.

My neighbor, who is almost seventy, with complete focus and surprising agility, was trying to climb over the fence.

I froze: she had always seemed like a quiet, reasonable, and modest woman. The sight was so incredible that I couldn’t look away and decided to watch what she would do next.

She jumped over her fence, then headed to mine, and skillfully climbing, ended up in my yard. It was already quite late for a visit, and besides, people don’t visit neighbors at that hour.

I jumped up, put on a robe, and went outside to see what she was up to. My heart was pounding, and my mind was full of guesses.

Suddenly, I heard a soft knock at the door. My heart stopped. After a few seconds, the neighbor appeared behind the door. She was trembling and cautiously looking at me.

– Please… help me… – she whispered barely audibly, her eyes full of fear.

Only then did I understand what was happening at her home. When her son starts drinking, he changes: rude, aggressive, sometimes even raises his hand against his mother. That day he came home drunk, and the neighbor, terrified, ran away to save herself.

I held her close, gave her warm tea, and calmed her. She stayed with me for a few days while we figured out together how to help. We contacted agents to sell her house and found a good elderly home where she could live peacefully.

After a week, she had already settled in, talked to neighbors, laughed, and walked in the yard without fear. I could see life shining in her eyes again.

Finally, the neighbor I knew as a quiet and modest woman could live happily, without fear or violence.
