A routine evening journey turned into a scene of devastation after a high-speed rail construction
crane collapsed directly onto a passenger train in Thailand
, killing at least 22 people and injuring 55 others.
The incident occurred as Train No. 21 was traveling
from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani, carrying 190 passengers on board
. The train was passing between the Nong Nam Khuean and
Si Khio stations when the massive crane suddenly gave way
, crashing down onto several carriages.
Passengers described a moment
of confusion followed by terror as metal
tore through the train and cars
violently lurched to a halt.
Some survivors said they initially
believed the train had derailed — only to realize a
construction crane had
collapsed onto them from above.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene within minutes.
Rescue teams worked through
twisted steel and shattered rail cars,
pulling survivors from the
wreckage as floodlights illuminated the disaster zone late into the night.
