Brother of woman who died in NYC helicopter crash with her family and the pilot shares emotional statement

The grieving brother of Mercè Camprubí Montal – the mother of three who lost her life in Thursday’s devastating helicopter crash along with her husband and children – traveled to NYC to identify the bodies and pay his respects at the crash site.

With heartbreak in his voice, Joan Camprubí Montal mentioned the names of the five family members – Agustín Escobar, Mercè Camprubí Montal, Victor, Mercedes and Augustine – before he expressed appreciation for the support his family received during this tough time.

In Spanish, his native language, Joan said, “We will never forget you. We will keep your smile alive every day of our lives, and I believe that’s the best legacy we can give you.

“This is a really difficult situation, but we are overwhelmed by the massive condolences we’ve received.”

“They left together. They left without suffering, and they left with a smile on their faces, and that is important for us,” he said.

“As a family we want to honor their happiness and their smile forever… we want to move the bodies, as soon as possible, back home with all the family to rest in peace together.”

He continued: “We will never forget you. We will keep your smile alive every day of our lives, and I believe that’s the best legacy we can give you.”

Witnesses of the tragic helicopter crash reported seeing the main rotor blade flying off moments before the helicopter plunged into the Hudson River.
Dani Horbiak, a witness, told ABC News she heard what “sounded almost like gunshots in the sky.” She then noticed parts of metal falling down from the sky.

According to The Telegraph, the owner of New York Helicopter which provided the tour and the chopper, Michael Roth, said the helicopter needed fuel.

“He [the pilot] called in that he was landing and that he needed fuel, and it should have taken him about three minutes to arrive, but 20 minutes later, he didn’t arrive.”

Although the investigation is still ongoing, experts believe the cause of the crash is a faulty “Jesus nut.“

The 36-year-old pilot, who also lost his life, was identified as former Navy SEAL veteran Sean Johnson.
