“Cops Warn of New Dangerous Prank Targeting Walmart Shoppers”

During a late-night shopping trip, Cheryl and Mel Johnson discovered a razor blade sticking out from a shopping cart handle.
Mel injured his hand and reported the issue to the store manager, who promptly inspected all carts, though no other blades were found.
Police suggested it could have been a malicious prank or a tool for shoplifters to cut security tags.

This isn’t an isolated case; a similar event occurred in 2015 in North Dakota.

While the Johnsons are relieved that Mel’s injury was minor,

they recognize the incident could have been far more serious—particularly if a child had been hurt or if the blade had been rusty.

Shoppers should stay alert when using carts, but retailers also bear responsibility.

Improved security measures, regular inspections, and public awareness efforts could help prevent these kinds of dangerous situations.

Walmart stated that it finds it “disturbing” that anyone would attempt to harm a customer or employee.

The company also mentioned that it is now performing regular inspections of shopping carts.

What steps do you think Walmart and other retailers should take to address and prevent such incidents?
