I was sitting in a coffee shop when a man and his mother took the table beside me.

From the start, their conversation was hard to ignore.

He was complaining about his “horrible”

wife, saying she was controlling and impossible to live with.

His phone kept buzzing on the table, but he didn’t bother picking it up.

At one point, he said he was leaving her that very day.

Half-joking, I asked,
