My name is Lina, and I am 32 years old. Up until the past week, I believed that I had everything: a husband who loved me, wonderful friends, and a life that was full of joy. Oh my goodness, I was completely incorrect!

First, my husband, Jett, informed me about a significant event that was going to take place at work. His employer is a large corporation, and they have a habit of hosting extravagant parties in order to celebrate their successes and discuss their goals for the future.

Jett exclaimed, “Babe, this is huge,” with wide-eyed enthusiasm visible in his eyes. “I have the potential to get that promotion that we have been looking for if I do a fantastic job on this presentation!”

However, as soon as I entered the foyer of the hotel, I had the impression that something was… off. There was a significant lack of noise for a large company celebration. At the front desk, where a pleasant lady by the name of Tila was working, I went to check in.

My husband, Jett, was present, and he was placed with his arm around my closest friend, Vina. As they made their way toward room 1408, they were giggling and whispering to one another.

I was unable to take a breath. What could he possibly have done to me? It was a race in my head. Were all of the things a lie?

Every little stride that they took caused my heart to break. A moment before they entered the room, I took a short picture of them holding hands and capturing it on camera. If I did not provide evidence, no one would believe me. The question is, why her? My closest companion, why?

Even though tears were streaming down my face at that moment, I experienced an odd sense of tranquility. I was aware of the actions that I needed to take.

After returning to the lobby, I was able to locate Tila once more. When she glanced at my face, her eyes were filled with sympathy and compassion.

She said, “Oh, honey,” as she spoke. “I am truly ashamed.”

I pulled in a deep breath. “Tila, I am in need of your assistance.”

As the hour progressed, Tila and I came up with a strategy. The first thing I did was phone Vina’s husband, Cal.

Cal, this is Lina. “Hey, Cal. Listen, Vina asked me to get you to meet her at the Grandview Hotel because something came up at work, and she wanted you to be there. When are you able to come?

Although he sounded confused, Cal responded with a yes. While we waited for him, Tila assisted me in putting the finishing touches on the strategy that we had devised.

Upon Cal’s arrival, appearing anxious, I took him aside and informed him of all that had transpired. He was shown the photograph that I had taken. The expression on his face changed from one of amazement to one of disbelief, and finally to one of wrath.

As he spoke, his voice was shaking and he said, “I can’t believe this.” What measures are we going to take?

I smiled in a chilly manner. It is our intention to provide them with a surprise that they will never forget.

Until Jett and Vina left their room, we waited for them to go. As soon as they entered the elevator, Tila had made it such that it would “stop.” Just before the doors were shut, Cal, who was disguised as a maintenance worker, found his way inside.

When the elevator doors closed, I was able to observe them from around the corner. My heart was thumping so fast that I was afraid it may burst out of my chest.

As soon as they entered the elevator, Cal began talking. What’s up, sir? Are you having a fun evening?

Jett shifted in an awkward manner. “Uh, yeah,” she said. A night of peace and quiet.”

“In such a luxurious hotel as this one?” When Cal laughed. “It must be something truly remarkable.”

A trembling laugh came from Vina. “Come on, take a short break.”

Suddenly, the elevator began to shake and came to a stop. One of the lights flashed in a spooky manner.

With a flawless performance, Cal said, “Oh man.” It would appear that we are unable to move forward. Don’t be concerned; I’ll correct it.

While he was engaging in conversation, he claimed to be playing with the control panel.

At the moment that the doors in the lobby opened, Jett and Vina came face to face with Cal and I.

Their expressions were completely different. Vina became as pale as a ghost, and Jett’s jaw fell wide in shock.

“Honey,” Jett muttered, “this is not what it appears to be…”

It was my intention to put a halt to him. Don’t even bother trying, Jett. It was all visible to me.”

Vina went into a weeping fit. The phrase “Lina, please, I can explain…”

Cal walked forward and removed his disguise he had been wearing. It seems to me that the two of you have both explained enough for today.

A whirlwind of emotions, anger, and harsh realities filled the subsequent few hours of the day. At the conclusion, not only were two marriages over, but so was a friendship that I had cherished for many years.

That evening, as I sat by myself in our apartment—no, my apartment—I experienced a peculiar assortment of emotions. Anguish, betrayal, and rage… however, freedom is also included. After the truth was revealed, I was finally free.
