Survivors Sleep Outside After Earthquake

Following a major earthquake in southern Mexico, frightened residents near the epicenter chose to sleep in open fields or cars,

fearing aftershocks might bring down their damaged homes.

Helicopter Crash Amid Relief Efforts

Tragedy struck again when a military helicopter carrying

officials crashed while attempting to land in Jamiltepec, about 20 miles from the epicenter.

The helicopter lost control about 100 feet from the

ground and crashed onto vehicles where survivors had taken shelter.

Multiple Casualties Reported

According to the Oaxaca state prosecutor’s office, 14 people on the ground were killed, including at least three children.

At least 21 others were injured. Miraculously, Interior Secretary Alfonso Navarrete,

Oaxaca Governor Alejandro Murat, and everyone aboard the helicopter suffered only minor injuries.

Navarrete told Televisa news, “It is regrettable that this incident occurred,”

but added it was fortunate that “there was no greater loss of human lives.”

Officials Express Regret and Promise Support

On Saturday, Secretary of National Defense S

alvador Cienfuegos Zepeda visited the crash site and apologized on behalf of the military.

He stated that the Defense Ministry

“takes full responsibility for what transpired here.”

He also promised support for the victims, sayin

g the agency would help rebuild homes and continue aiding the community.
