Michelle Obama addresses divorce rumors and explains why she and Barack are rarely seen in public together

Michelle Obama Breaks Silence—Again—on Divorce Rumors

She Sets the Record Straight

Michelle Obama has once again shut down persistent rumors about her marriage to Barack Obama. Speaking on NPR’s Wild Card podcast with Rachel Martin, the former First Lady didn’t hold back.

This isn’t the first time she’s addressed the speculation. Over the years, she’s been vocal about the baseless gossip, calling it nothing more than nonsense.

“Everyone Would Know”

In a previous interview on The Diary of a CEO podcast, Michelle told Steven Bartlett, “Everyone would know” if she and Barack ever decided to split.

She also pointed out that people often can’t “fathom” her doing anything independently, suggesting that the rumors reflect more about others’ assumptions than reality.

Media Coverage and Modern Fame

Now 61, Michelle reflected on her post-White House life and the public’s unrealistic expectations.

“It takes a second when you start thinking, ‘Can I go here? Can I say this?’” she said. “Even now, anything Barack and I say—right or wrong—gets covered.”

She noted how the lack of public photos or date nights doesn’t mean their marriage is crumbling. “The fact that people don’t see me out with my husband sparks rumors of divorce. It’s like the apocalypse!”

No Time for Selfies

Michelle made it clear: they’re simply not documenting every moment.

“We’re in our 60s. We don’t Instagram every part of our lives,” she said. “People won’t know what we’re doing all the time. Yes, we’re famous, but we don’t take selfies!”

She added that Barack jokes about her not taking pictures of anything they do. “I’m just not thinking about a picture,” she laughed.

A Love Story That’s Lasted Decades

Michelle and Barack met in 1988 at a Chicago law firm, where she was assigned to mentor him. They married four years later, welcomed Malia in 1998 and Natasha in 2001.

Barack became the first Black President of the United States in 2009, serving two terms. He later admitted the presidency had strained their marriage—but they worked through it.

Final Word

Michelle’s message is clear: Just because you don’t see them together on social media doesn’t mean their bond has faded.

They’re simply living life on their own terms—without needing to prove anything to anyone.
