President Biden firmly denies Trump’s accusation that he used an autopen to authorize orders

Biden Pushes Back Against Trump’s Autopen Accusation

Former President Joe Biden is firmly responding to a claim made by President Donald Trump. Trump recently accused Biden of using an autopen—a device that mechanically replicates a signature—to sign executive orders and other key documents while in office.

Trump’s Claim: No Proof Offered

Trump made the allegation without providing any evidence. He implied that Biden’s aides may have signed important papers on his behalf using the machine.

The claim quickly stirred controversy, though it wasn’t backed by documentation or official statements.

Biden Responds: “I Made the Decisions

In a strong statement to ABC News, Biden rejected the accusation outright.

“Let me be clear: I made the decisions during my presidency. I made the decisions about the pardons, executive orders, legislation, and proclamations.

Any suggestion that I didn’t is ridiculous and false,” he said.

Biden didn’t stop there. He also labeled Trump’s push for a mental fitness investigation a “mere distraction.”

What the Law Says About Autopens

According to the Justice Department, the use of an autopen is legal—as long as the president personally authorizes its use. Previous presidents have used the tool in special cases, like when traveling or during emergencies.

A Sudden Shift in Tone

Trump’s recent accusation marks a stark contrast from his tone just weeks ago. After news broke about Biden’s cancer diagnosis, Trump offered public sympathy.

“Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis,” Trump had written. “We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”

Final Thoughts

Trump’s unverified autopen claim has reignited political tensions ahead of the 2024 election. Meanwhile, Biden remains clear: every major decision during his presidency, including executive orders, bore his full authority.
