Savannah Guthrie breaks silence amid mother Nancy’s mysterious disappearance

NBC’s Today show anchor Savannah Guthrie’s mom, Nancy Guthrie, has been reported missing from her home in Arizona. She was last seen in the Catalina Foothills on Saturday, January 31. Savannah decided not to do Monday’s show, and now, she has spoken out about her mother’s disappearance.

In a press conference on Sunday, Feb. 1, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos shared details about the case.

He explained that search and rescue teams have been searching on the ground and in the air. He also confirmed that a homicide team had been brought in to aid in the investigation.

“We’re pretty much just throwing everything at this that we can. Guthrie is 84 years old and is not of good physical health, and so naturally that’s a great concern,” Chris Nanos said. “This is very concerning to us. We don’t typically get the sheriff out at a scene like this. But it’s very concerning what we’re learning from the house,” he continued, adding, “And so we’ll just continue. The detective’s homicide team is out right now looking at the scene as well.”

Savannah Guthrie, the NBC News anchor for Today, was absent from the broadcast on Monday, February 2. Per People Magazine, the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie was mentioned at the top of Monday’s show. It was only hours after the news broke.

“We want to get right to what is a deeply personal story for us, Nancy Guthrie, Savannah’s beloved mother, has been reported missing in Arizona,” anchor Craig Melvin said.

Now, Savannah Guthrie has broken her silence. In a statement to the Today show, she said, “On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers, and messages of support. Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom. We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900.”
