These sisters were born joined at the torso, and at the age of four, doctors decided to separate them . Everyone thought they would not survive, but they are alive and now nearly 20 years old.  Unfortunately, after the separation surgery, each sister was left with only one leg, but this has not stopped them from living happy lives.

In 2007, the whole world followed the fate of these incredible girls from New Zealand — Kendra and Maliyah Herrin. They were born joined at the torso and shared several vital organs, including a single kidney.

At the age of four, doctors dared to perform an extremely complex operation to give them the chance of an independent life.

Back then, the operation lasted more than 24 hours and involved a team of dozens of specialists. In the end, Kendra kept their shared kidney, while Maliyah had to undergo a long process of dialysis and a donor kidney transplant.

Despite all the difficulties, both sisters managed not only to survive but to rebuild their lives.

Today, Kendra and Maliyah are young women in their early twenties who inspire thousands of people around the world. Each of them lives with only one leg, but this has not prevented them from being active and independent.
