Woods Point rocked by 3.1 magnitude

A 3.1 magnitude earthquake has rocked a small town in Victoria’s east.

Residents near Woods Point, about 178km east of Melbourne

, reported feeling tremors shortly after 5.20am on Wednesday.

Seismic activity monitors detected the shake at a depth of 1km.

Light sleepers and early risers quickly

took to social media to report the quake.

‘Literally woke up from a dream about an earthquake.

I feel vindicated,’ one said.

Another thought something

had hit their home after hearing a loud noise.

‘That was such a sudden jolt

I was legit confused if something

hit the building or not,’ they wrote.

The quake was felt all the way in Melbourne,

as far west as Sunbur

y and south as Carrum Downs.

Earthquakes reaching 3.1 magnitud

e are considered minor and unlikely to cause damage.

No injuries have been reported
