Keep Bugs Away Naturally with This Simple DIY Repellent

When summer arrives, so do unwanted insects — buzzing mosquitoes, persistent ants, and flies that seem to appear out of nowhere.

While many commercial sprays promise relief, they often come with harsh chemicals, unpleasant fumes, and risks to your health and the environment.

Instead of relying on these products, you can create a safe, natural,

and affordable bug repellent right at home using simple ingredients already in your kitchen.

This gentle solution protects your family and pets while effectively keeping bugs at bay.

The recipe uses three main ingredients: white vinegar, olive or vegetable oil,

and gentle liquid shampoo. Vinegar’s strong scent deters ants and mosquitoes, while the oil creates a barrier that insects can’t cross.

The shampoo helps the mixture blend smoothly and stick to surfaces while also breaking down insect trails.

For an extra boost, you can add lemon juice and essential oils like peppermint, citronella, or lavender, which naturally repel common pests and add a fresh, pleasant scent.

To make it, mix ½ cup of vinegar, ½ cup of oil, and ½ cup of shampoo in a bowl, whisking until smooth.

If desired, add 2–3 tablespoons of lemon juice and 10–15 drops of essential oil. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle, label it clearly,

and shake well before each use. Spray it on window sills, door frames, patio furniture, and other bug-prone areas, avoiding direct food surfaces and delicate materials.

Reapply daily, especially after rain or during peak bug activity times like early morning and dusk.

This natural spray works by creating an environment that bugs dislike, breaking their scent trails, and preventing them from gathering in your space.

Inspired by traditional, time-tested methods, it offers an eco-friendly alternative to harsh chemicals while being budget-friendly and safe for the whole family.

With just a few simple steps, you can enjoy a peaceful, bug-free home all summer long — naturally and responsibly.
