Simone learned that her father had financed her mother’s education after she disappeared, hoping she would return.

Instead, her mother remarried, raised two children, and declined visits with the daughter she left behind.

With help from her half-sister, Hannah, Simone confronted her at a family gathering. When her mother blamed her father for keeping them apart, Simone produced the custody documents.

She acknowledged his wrongdoing without allowing it to excuse hers: he had concealed the truth, but he had stayed and raised her.

An unsent letter later revealed that her father had intended to confess, knowing he might lose her forgiveness.

Simone remained angry, yet found room for understanding. Months afterward, she honored him by establishing an education fund for single parents.

She and Hannah slowly built a relationship, while their mother’s letters waited.

Simone would decide whether to reconnect, and when. For now, she could honor her father without pretending his silence had been right.
