“Part 2 Poor Girl Who Stopped the Wedding and Said”

It was the most beautiful wedding Chicago had seen that year.

The grand hotel ballroom was decorated with white roses, golden lights, and crystal chandeliers. Wealthy guests sat in silence, watching the bride and groom stand under a flower-covered arch.

The bride’s name was *Emily Parker*.

She was beautiful, kind, and came from one of the richest families in the city.

The groom’s name was *James Whitmore*.

He was handsome, successful, and known as a rising businessman.

Everyone called them the perfect couple.

Photographers were ready.
The music was soft.
The bride was smiling.
The groom held the wedding ring in his hand.

The priest looked at James and said,

“You may place the ring on her finger.”

James smiled and slowly lifted Emily’s hand.

But before the ring could touch her finger…

The ballroom doors suddenly opened.

A cold wind entered the hall.

Everyone turned around.

A little girl, no older than ten years old, stood at the entrance.

Her clothes were old.
Her shoes were dirty.
Her hair was messy.
Her small face was wet with tears.

The security guards rushed toward her.

“Hey! You can’t come in here!” one guard shouted.

But the little girl ran past them.

She ran straight down the wedding aisle.

Guests gasped.

The bride froze.

The groom’s face went pale.

The little girl stopped just a few feet away from James.

Her tiny hands were shaking.

Then she cried out:

*“Stop! He promised my mother he would come back!”*

The entire hall became silent.

The priest lowered his book.

The bride slowly turned toward James.

“What is she talking about?” Emily asked.

James forced a nervous smile.

“I don’t know. She must be confused.”

The little girl shook her head.

“I’m not confused.”

A wealthy woman in the front row whispered,

“Who brought this child here?”

Another guest said,

“This is embarrassing.”

Security came closer to grab the girl.

But Emily raised her hand.

“Don’t touch her.”

The guards stopped.

Emily stepped toward the little girl.

Her voice was gentle.

“What is your name?”

The girl wiped her tears.

“My name is Lily.”

Emily looked at her carefully.

“Lily… why did you come here?”

Lily looked at James.

Her eyes were full of pain.

“My mother told me to find him.”

James looked away.

Emily noticed it.

“James,” she whispered, “do you know this child?”

James shook his head quickly.

“No. I have never seen her before.”

Lily’s lips trembled.

“That’s not true.”

The guests started whispering louder.

Emily felt her heart beating faster.

She looked at Lily again.

“Where is your mother?”

Lily lowered her eyes.

“She died last week.”

The hall went quiet again.

Even the music stopped.

Emily’s face softened.

“I’m sorry,” she whispered.

Lily reached into the pocket of her old coat.

Her hand was shaking as she pulled out a folded photograph.

The photo was old, scratched, and slightly torn at the corner.

Lily held it toward Emily.

“My mother said if he ever denied us, I should show this.”

Emily slowly took the photograph.

The moment she looked at it, her smile disappeared.

In the photo, James was standing beside a poor young woman outside a small apartment building.

The woman was holding a newborn baby.

Behind the photo, there was handwriting.

Emily turned it over.

It said:

*“James, Grace, and our daughter Lily.”*

Emily’s hands began to shake.

She looked at James.

“Who is Grace?”

James swallowed hard.

“I can explain.”

The bride stepped back.

“Explain what?”

James looked around. Hundreds of eyes were on him.

His perfect wedding had turned into a nightmare.

Lily looked at him and whispered,

“My mother waited for you until the day she died.”

James closed his eyes.

Emily’s father, *Robert Parker*, stood up from the front row.

He was a powerful businessman, and his voice filled the hall.

“James, answer the question.”

James looked at Robert, then at Emily.

“It was before I met you,” he said.

Emily’s eyes filled with tears.

“You have a child?”

James said nothing.

That silence was the answer.

Emily slowly removed her hand from his.

The ring fell from James’s fingers and hit the marble floor.

The sound echoed through the hall.

Lily looked at the ring, then at James.

“My mother said you promised to come back after you became successful.”

James whispered,

“I was young.”

Lily’s voice broke.

“She worked two jobs. She was sick. She still told me every night that my father was a good man.”

James looked ashamed for a moment.

But then his expression changed.

He stepped toward Lily.

“Listen, little girl. Whatever your mother told you, this is not the place.”

Emily stared at him in disbelief.

“This is your daughter, James.”

James looked nervous.

“We don’t know that.”

Lily reached into her coat again.

This time, she pulled out a small silver bracelet.

“This was yours,” she said. “My mother kept it for me.”

James froze.

The bracelet had his initials engraved on it.

*J.W.*

Emily took the bracelet and looked at James.

“How many lies are there?”

James did not answer.

Suddenly, Lily pulled one more thing from her pocket.

A small envelope.

“My mother told me to give this to the bride.”

Emily looked confused.

“To me?”

Lily nodded.

“She said you deserved to know before it was too late.”

Emily opened the envelope.

Inside was a letter.

The handwriting was weak, but clear.

Emily began reading.

*“Dear bride, I do not know your name, but I know your heart is about to be broken. James is not the man he pretends to be. He left me when I became pregnant, but that was not his only secret.”*

Emily stopped reading.

Her breath became heavy.

James stepped forward.

“Give me that letter.”

Emily moved away.

“No.”

She continued reading.

*“He did not just leave me. He took something from my family. Something that destroyed my mother and made us homeless.”*

The guests gasped.

Robert Parker stepped closer.

“What did he take?”

Lily looked down.

“My mother said he stole papers from my grandmother.”

James’s face turned white.

Emily read the next line.

*“Those papers proved that the land James built his first company on did not belong to him.”*

The hall became deadly silent.

Robert Parker looked at James with anger.

“Is this true?”

James quickly said,

“No. This is ridiculous.”

But Lily spoke softly.

“My mother kept copies.”

James’s eyes widened.

Emily looked at Lily.

“Where are they?”

Lily looked scared.

“She hid them before she died.”

James suddenly grabbed Lily’s arm.

“You need to stop talking.”

The entire hall gasped.

Emily shouted,

“Let her go!”

Robert Parker moved forward.

James released Lily immediately.

But now everyone had seen his real face.

Lily stepped behind Emily.

Her small body was shaking.

Emily looked at James with tears in her eyes.

“I was about to marry you.”

James tried to smile.

“Emily, don’t let a poor child ruin our future.”

Emily stared at him.

“No, James. You ruined it.”

The guests whispered louder.

Some people started recording on their phones.

James looked around in panic.

Then his phone rang.

The ringtone sounded loud in the silent ballroom.

James looked at the screen.

His face turned completely pale.

Emily noticed.

“Who is calling?”

James did not answer.

Lily looked at the phone and suddenly froze.

“That’s my mother’s number.”

Everyone went silent.

James stared at the screen.

Caller ID:

*Grace*

But Grace was dead.

Lily’s eyes filled with fear.

“My mother’s phone was buried with her.”

Emily whispered,

“Answer it.”

James shook his head.

“No.”

Robert said firmly,

“Answer the phone.”

James’s hand trembled as he pressed accept.

For three seconds, there was only silence.

Then a weak recorded voice played through the speaker.

It was a woman’s voice.

*“James… if Lily is standing in front of you, then my daughter has found the truth.”*

Lily started crying.

“Mom…”

The voice continued:

*“You left us once. But I will not let you destroy another innocent woman’s life.”*

James looked like he could not breathe.

Emily covered her mouth.

Then Grace’s voice said:

*“The proof is hidden where you made your first promise.”*

James suddenly ended the call.

But it was too late.

Everyone had heard it.

Emily looked at Lily.

“Where did he make the first promise?”

Lily wiped her tears.

“My mother said it was under the old bridge near Lakeview Park.”

James shouted,

“She’s lying!”

But his fear had already exposed him.

Robert Parker turned to the security guards.

“Lock the doors. No one leaves.”

James stepped backward.

“Robert, you don’t understand.”

Robert’s voice became cold.

“I understand enough.”

Suddenly, the lights in the ballroom flickered.

The chandeliers blinked once.

Then twice.

A loud sound came from the speaker system.

The wedding screen behind the stage suddenly turned on.

Everyone looked toward it.

A video began playing.

It showed James years ago, standing under a bridge with Grace.

Grace was pregnant.

James was holding her hands.

His voice came through the speakers:

*“When I become rich, I will come back for you and our daughter. I promise.”*

Emily’s tears fell.

Lily stared at the screen.

“My mother kept the video,” she whispered.

James looked at the screen in horror.

Then the video changed.

It showed James taking a folder from an old woman’s house.

Grace’s voice recorded from behind the camera:

*“James, what are you doing?”*

James’s voice in the video replied:

*“This will make us rich.”*

The ballroom exploded with shock.

Robert Parker looked at James.

“You used my daughter to enter our family.”

James looked trapped.

Then the video stopped.

A message appeared on the screen:

*“If this video is playing, Lily is not safe.”*

Lily grabbed Emily’s dress.

Emily held her close.

Then another line appeared:

*“The man helping James is sitting in the front row.”*

Everyone turned toward the front row.

Emily’s uncle, *Thomas Parker*, slowly stood up.

His face was pale.

Robert looked at him.

“Thomas?”

Thomas looked at James with anger.

“You said the girl would never come.”

The hall froze.

Emily stepped back.

“You were involved?”

Thomas said nothing.

James shouted,

“You idiot!”

Security moved toward them.

But suddenly, the fire alarm began screaming.

Guests started panicking.

The ballroom doors opened.

Smoke filled the entrance.

In the confusion, James ran toward Lily.

Emily pulled the girl behind her.

Robert shouted,

“Stop him!”

James looked at Lily with hatred and fear.

“Where are the copies?”

Lily cried,

“I don’t know!”

James grabbed the silver bracelet from the floor and ran toward the side exit.

But before he could escape, the wedding photographer stepped in front of him.

The photographer removed his glasses and said,

“James Whitmore, you are under arrest.”

Everyone froze.

The photographer pulled out a police badge.

He was an undercover detective.

James dropped the bracelet.

Emily looked shocked.

The detective said,

“Grace contacted us before she died. We were waiting to see who would expose himself.”

James looked at Lily.

His face was full of rage.

Lily stood behind Emily, crying.

Then the detective looked at Thomas.

“And you too.”

As police officers entered the ballroom, Emily kneeled in front of Lily.

“You saved me,” Emily whispered.

Lily shook her head.

“No. My mother did.”

Emily hugged her tightly.

For the first time that night, Lily stopped shaking.

But then the detective picked up James’s phone from the floor.

It had one unread message.

The detective opened it.

His expression changed.

Robert asked,

“What is it?”

The detective read the message out loud.

*“If the girl speaks, take her before midnight.”*

Emily held Lily even tighter.

The detective looked at the clock.

It was 11:57 PM.

Three minutes before midnight.

Suddenly, the lights went out.

The entire wedding hall fell into darkness.

Lily screamed.

When the emergency lights came back on…

The detective was on the floor.

James was gone.

And Lily’s small silver bracelet was hanging on the wedding arch.

Under it was a note.

Emily picked it up with trembling hands.

It said:

*“You found the wrong secret.”*

Emily looked at Lily.

Lily whispered,

“My mother said there was one more name.”

Emily’s voice shook.

“What name?”

Lily looked toward Robert Parker.

Then she said,

*“Parker.”*
