Silent Threat In Your Wall

An unused charger typically draws a small amount of standby electricity,

but that does not mean it is constantly overheating or heading toward failure.

Well-made chargers designed to meet applicable safety standards generally present a low risk when left plugged in.

The greater concern is damaged, poorly manufactured, or counterfeit equipment.

Unusual heat, discoloration, buzzing, a burning smell, or a cracked casing should never be brushed aside.

Stop using a suspect charger, and have loose or scorched outlets checked by a qualified electrician.

At home, simple precautions matter more than fear. Keep chargers dry and uncovered, inspect cables for fraying, and keep cords away from children and pets. Buy compatible replacements from reputable sellers rather than gambling on an untraceable bargain. Unplugging an idle charger is a sensible extra precaution, especially before a long absence. It is not a guarantee against disaster, but it removes an unnecessary powered device from the room.
