The Gift That Meant More Than Coffee..

On the last day of school, one of my sixth-grade students gave me a Starbucks gift card because he knew how much I loved coffee. I thanked him and told him he really didn’t have to, but he simply smiled, handed me the card, and walked away. I thought it was just a small, thoughtful gift from a kind student.

Later, I stopped at Starbucks to use the card. As soon as the cashier scanned it, she gasped and called over the manager. For a moment, I worried something was wrong with the card, but the manager smiled warmly and asked where I had gotten it. When I explained that it was a gift from one of my students, they immediately knew exactly who I meant.

The manager told me the boy had been coming into the store almost every week for an entire month, adding just two or three dollars to the gift card whenever he could. He patiently saved every bit of spare change he had, telling the staff it was for the best teacher he had ever known. They had been waiting to find out who the lucky teacher was.

Overwhelmed by the story, I could barely speak. The manager handed the card back and refused to let me use it that day, insisting my coffee was on the house. He told me to keep the gift card untouched because it represented something far more valuable than money—it was a heartfelt gift from a student whose gratitude and kindness made it priceless.
